Hi everyone! Thanks so much for joining Pine + Main! It’s been a big dream of mine for years to make handcrafted local furniture more available. Together we can do great things, together we can show people the value and social responsibility in choosing local handcrafted.

Photographing furniture is very important to accurately convey it’s beauty and quality to potential customers. But photographing furniture is especially challenging because of it’s size. I used to haul pieces in to my home and photograph, but this is time consuming and taxing on your home and possibly your marriage. A photography studio can save lots of time and extra work.

The easiest option is taking photos outside on cloudy days. This gives you the space to take different angles, and natural light is flattering and honest to stain and paint colors. But the issue with outdoor photography is you cannot control the weather.

One thing I do is use a light kit with backdrop. It’s a pretty simple system – just a frame that you can hang a green, white or black curtain on, and a couple of lights to minimize shadows. It works pretty good, and is great as a backup for when it’s not easy to stage in my house, or the weather isn’t cooperating (which is quite often in Alaska where it’s winter 8 months out of the year). It’s a nice option to have.
